Greiz Attractions
The town of Greiz lies some 35km/22mi south of Gera in a long basin in the narrow wooded valley of the Weisse Elster, enclosed by forest-covered ridges of hills. This one-time capital of the little principality of Reuss is known as the "pearl of the Vogtland".

The Upper Castle, built in the 1500s and extended in the 1700s, is a complex of buildings, with some lovely Baroque and Roccoco style rooms.
Guard-House
The neo-classical Hauptwache (1817-19) in Greiz now houses the tourist information office.
Lower Castle
On the right bank of the Elster in Greiz lies the old town, with the Unteres Schloss (originally 13th C.; remodeled in neo-classical style in 1802-09 after a fire). Some early 19th C furnishings have been preserved. The annex, with tower (1885-86), is now occupied by the Heimatmuseum.
