From Heilbronn to Heidelberg Attractions

Leave Heilbronn on B 27, which runs north along the right bank of the Neckar to Neckarsulm. Beyond this, at Bad Friedrichshall-Kochendorf, is a rock-salt mine.

North of Bad Friedrichshall, on the other side of the river (bridge), lies the picturesque little town of Bad Wimpfen.
Dilsberg, Germany
4km/2.5mi east, on a wooded conical hill in the Neckar Valley, is the charming little town of Dilsberg, with the ruins of an old castle (open to visitors); magnificent view from castle walls.

From here the road continues to Heidelberg and Mannheim, where the Neckar flows into the Rhine.
Eberbach, Germany
Eberbach, once a free imperial city, has preserved some of the towers in its old ring of fortifications. The old town center has been well rehabilitated and now has little traffic. Attractions include a museum in the Alter Markt, and medicinal springs with spa facilities. To the northeast, above the town, are the remains of an old Hohenstaufen stronghold.

Hammersheim - Guttenberg Castle
Beyond Wimpfen, on the left bank of the Neckar, are the ruined castle of Ehrenberg and, rather farther from the river, Schloss Guttenberg (12th-18th c.), with a museum (tin figures, dioramas, "library of wood") and a tower commanding wide views.

Neckargemünd
Beyond Neckarsteinach, in the Neckar Valley, a bridge crosses the river to Neckargemünd, where the Elsenz flows into the Neckar. At the east end of the town stands a triumphal arch erected in 1788 in honor of Elector Karl Theodor.
Neckarsteinach, Germany
The picturesquely situated little town of Neckarsteinach, in the Neckar Valley, has a Gothic church. Above the town are four castles that belonged to the Ritter von Steinach.
Neckarzimmern
Above Neckarzimmern, in the Neckar Valley, stands the ruined castle of Hornberg (small museum), which was destroyed in 1688. This was the seat of the knight made famous by Goethe's play, Götz von Berlichingen, who wrote his memoirs here and died in the castle in 1562. From the keep there are extensive views of the Neckar valley.

From Neckarelz the route continues on B 37.
Obrigheim
Beyond Neckarelz, in the Neckar Valley, is the Obrigheim nuclear power station on the west bank. The valley now becomes narrower as the road runs through Neckargerach and below Burg Zwingenberg (festival in August and September).
