Frankenberg Attractions

30km/20mi north of Marburg, on a hill on the right bank of the river Eder, is the little town of Frankenberg, with remains of its medieval fortifications and many handsome half-timbered houses.

On the highest point in the town stands the Gothic Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady; 1286-1360), which was modeled on St Elizabeth's Church in Marburg. Between the Upper and Lower Markets is the Town Hall (1509), a half-timbered building with a slate-clad upper part and eight oriels with pointed helm roofs. To the southeast is the former Cistercian convent of St Georgenberg (13th-16th C.; Heimatmuseum).
Eder Dam
Northeast of Frankenberg (30km/20mi north of Marburg) can be found the Eder Dam, which has formed a 27km/17mile long lake, now a popular recreation area and water sports center. There are boat trips on the lake.
