Eisenhüttenstadt lies 20km/12.5mi south of Frankfurt an der Oder, at the junction of the Oder-Spree Canal with the Oder. It takes its name from an ironworks (eisenhütte) established here in 1951.
In Neuzelle, 9km/6mi south of Eisenhüttenstadt on B 112, can be found the Baroque church (richly furnished interior) belonging to a former Cistercian monastery, with extensive conventual buildings.
The main features of interest in Beeskow (30km/20mi west of Eisenhüttenstadt) are the old town, with its walls and Dicker Turm ("Fat Tower"), and the Biological Heimatmuseum in the Burg.
In the Fürstenberg district in Eisenhüttenstadt, on the high west bank of the Oder, stands a Gothic hall-church (c. 1400), the exterior of which has been restored after suffering war damage.
Near the town church, at Löwenstrasse 4, is the Eisenhüttenstadt Municipal Museum (history of the town, crafts, development of ironworking, contemporary art).
