Duderstadt Attractions
The medieval town of Duderstadt, in the Eichsfeld to the southwest of the Harz, is huddled within the 3km/2mi long circuit of its walls. It has about 500 half-timbered houses.
Duderstadt (Eichsfeld - Local Museum)
Beyond St Cyriakus Church in Duderstadt, in a Baroque house of 1767, is the Eichsfeld Heimatmuseum.
Marktstrasse
In Marktstrasse, which runs west from the Duderstadt Town Hall, are a number of handsome half-timbered houses.
St Cyriakus
A short way east of the Duderstadt Town Hall is the church of St Cyriakus or Oberkirche (14th-16th C.; R.C.).
St Servatius
In the Duderstadt Untermarkt is the Protestant parish church of St Servatius (or Unterkirche; 15th-16th C.), with an interior partly decorated in Art Nouveau style.
Town Hall
The central feature of Duderstadt is the Obermarkt, with the Town Hall (13th-16th C.). This is an imposing half-timbered building with three small towers and sandstone arcades on the ground and first floors (historical exhibition; carillon).
Westerturm
To the north of the Duderstadt Untermarkt stands the Westerturm (1424), with a twisted spire, the only surviving town gate.
