Braubach Attractions
At the upper end of the ancient little town of Braubach are the ruins of the Philippsburg (1568). The town contains the Romanesque cemetery chapel of St Martin (c 1000) and handsome half-timbered houses.

Above Braubach stands the Marksburg, the only hilltop castle on the Rhine which has escaped destruction (museum).
It is believed to have been built by Eberhard II von Eppstein in the 13th C. on the site of an earlier castle, and was later enlarged. After many changes the castle has belonged since 1899 to the Deutsche Burgenvereinigung (German Castles Association) The name Marksburg comes from the castle chapel, which was dedicated to St Mark. The castle contains an interesting collection of arms and armor.
