Land: North Rhine-Westphalia
Bonn lies on both banks of the Rhine, which here enters the Cologne lowlands after its passage through the Rhenish Uplands. The pattern of the city's life is set by its old and famous University, its role as the seat of government (now due to be transferred to Berlin), its
busy commercial life and its attractive setting (particularly on the river side, with its view of the nearby Siebengebirge). Since the incorporation of Beul and Bad Godesberg into the city it has also possessed a renowned spa resort within its boundaries. Bonn was the birthplace of Beethoven.
