Black Forest - Southern Attractions
The southern Black Forest, scenically perhaps the most magnificent part of the range, is dominated by the 1,493 m/4,899ft high Feldberg, from which a ridge runs west to the beautifully shaped Belchen (1,414 m/4,639ft) and Blauen (1,165 m/3,822ft), the peak reaching farthest towards the Rhine plain. Among the most striking beauty spots in this region are the two large lakes carved out by glaciers on the slopes of the Feldberg, the Titisee and Schluchsee, and the valleys which radiate from the Feldberg, in particular the romantic Höllental, and the Wiese and Alb valleys which run down to the High Rhine. Here in the southern Black Forest there are Titisee spa, the Hinterzarten and the area around the Feldberg, St Blasien, Menzenschwand, Schönau and the thermal resort of Badenweiler.
