Black Forest - Northern Attractions

The northern Black Forest - the part lying north of the Kinzig valley, which cuts through the whole range from Freudenstadt to Offenburg - is made up of broad ridges of Bunter sandstone and reaches its highest point in the Hornisgrinde (1,166m/3,826ft, on whose slopes romantic little lakes such as the Mummelsee and Wildsee nestle in corries. The main tourist attractions of this region are the magnificent spa facilities of Baden-Baden, the valleys of the Murg with the interesting Murg hydroelectric installations, the Alb with the spa of Bad Herrenalb, the Enz with Wildbad, the Nagold with the attractive resort of Bad Liebenzell, picturesque Hirsau with its ruined abbey and the forests around Freudenstadt.
