Bad Salzungen Attractions

Bad Salzungen lies in the wide Werra valley, between the Thuringian Forest and the Rhön.
Churches
The Town Church in Bad Salzungen, originally neo-classical (1789-91), was later altered. St Wenceslas's Church (1481) is Late Gothic, with a 15th C pulpit.
Husenkirche
The ruins of the Late Gothic Husenkirche in Bad Salzungen, destroyed in 1945, have been left as a memorial.
Schnepfenburg
The Schnepfenburg (12th-14th C.; rebuilt after a fire) in Bad Salzungen was the base of forces responsible for defending the brine springs against attack.
The Spa
A number of carefully restored old buildings recall Bad Salzungen's long tradition as a spa, such as the large Gradierhäuser ("evaporation halls"; 1796 and 1905) and the Baths (1837).
Town Hall
In the Marktplatz of Bad Salzungen stands the Town Hall (1790). The Haunscher Hof, a Renaissance building of 1624, has a handsome half-timbered upper story.
Wilprechtroda
Wilprechtroda, in Bad Salzungen, has a 16th C mansion, a former moated castle with a fine Renaissance doorway.
