Rice Museum Description
The Georgetown region produced half the rice grown in the United States. The Rice Museum built in 1842, is located in the Old Market Building. Through maps, dioramas, artifacts and other exhibits, visitors gain an understanding of a society based on one agricultural crop. The museum also houses the Browns Ferry Vessel, which is the oldest vessel of colonial manufacture in the United States and is on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as other exhibits relating to area history and historical figures.
