From Piazza del Principe Via A. Gramsci runs alongside the high-level motorway which skirts the inner harbor to Piazza Caricamento, in which is the Gothic Palazzo di San Giorgio (c. 1260), occupied from 1408 to 1797 by the Banca di San Giorgio, an influential bank which financed the Genoese republic (beautiful courtyard).
