Fribourg to the Schwarzsee and Schwefelbergbad
A beautiful run (22 and 33km/17 and 21mi southeast) through the Fribourg Pre-Alps. The road runs via Bourgouillon and Giffers (alt. 767m/ 2,517ft) to Plaffeien (18km/11mi; 851 m/2,792ft), where it enters the valley of the Sense and the Fribourg Alps. 4km/2mi: Zollhaus (902 m/2,959ft), at the junction of the Warme and the Kalte Sense.

From here a road to the left leads to Schwefelbergbad; the road to the right ascends the valley of the Warme Sense to the Schwarzsee (1,048 m/3,438ft; Hotel Gypsera), a lake surrounded by beautiful wooded hills. From the north end of the lake a chair-lift 1,436 m/4,712ft long runs up in 14minutes to the Riggisalp (1,500 m/4,922ft). From Kaiseregg (2,189 m/7,182ft; 3.5 hours from the lake) there are magnificent views; good skiing (ski lifts).
From Zollhaus the road to Schwefelbergbad leads east up the valley of the Kalte Sense by way of the Sangernboden (1,005 m/3,297ft). 10km/6mi: Schwefelbergbad (1,398 m/4,587ft), with sulfurous springs, in a beautiful wooded setting at the foot of the Ochsen (2,190 m/7,185ft; 2.5 hours; view) and Gantrisch (2,177 m/7,143ft). These mountains form a skiing area much favored by the People of Berne (many ski huts; ski lifts from Schwefelbergbad to 1,700 m/5,578ft on the north face of the Ochsen).
