Description
Two old professors' houses, the Coopmanshus (1746) and the Valckniershus (1662), at Voorstraat 49, are now occupied by the Coopmanshus Museum, with a collection of material on the history of the town and the university. There are also mementos of Anna Maria van Schuurman (1607-78), a well known poet in her day, who corresponded with Descartes and in addition to writing verses was also a painter and silhouette artist. The Senate Room, with portraits of professors, has been preserved.
