Wissembourg Attractions

The picturesque holiday resort of Wissembourg (pop. 8,170) grew up around a Benedictine abbey founded in the seventh century and was a member of the league of 10 imperial free cities in Alsace. The Town Hall, in the market square, was built in 1741-1751. The church of St-Pierre-et-Paul, the largest church in Alsace after Strasbourg Cathedral, has medieval stained glass and a crown-shaped chandelier. The Romanesque west tower in Wissembourg dates from 1070, the beautiful cloister from the 14th century. The Westercamp Museum has a collection of archeological material and documents on the history of the town.
