Pomerol Region
There is no actual village of Pomerol, rather it is a commune extending from the port of Libourne on the north bank of the Dordogne river. Pomerol takes in the small villages of Catusseau, Cloquet, Grand- and Petit-Moulinet, Maillet, Pignon and René.
Pomerol's vineyards were first grown by the Romans. For many years Pomerol was not distinguished from the vineyards of St-Emilion to its east.
Pomerol's more elite estates include: Château Le Bon Pasteur, Château Certan, Château La Conseillante, Château La Croix de Gay, Château l'Eglise-Clinet, Château l'Evangile, Château La Fleur-Pétrus, Château la Grave Trigant de Boisset, Château Lafleur-Gazin, Château Latour à Pomerol, Château Petit Village, Château Pétrus, Château Trotanoy, Vieux Château Certan and Château La Violette.
Châteaux which welcome visitors with advance notice include: Château Beauregard, Château Nenin, Château La Pointe, Château de Sales and Vieux Château Certan. Information can be obtained from the tourism offices in Libourne and Bordeaux.
