Cotes de Castillon and Cotes de Francs Region Attractions

Côtes de Francs is a lesser known hilly district to the north of Côtes de Castillon.

Since the 1980s more interest has been shown in these two regions, much of which can be attributed to the efforts of a Belgian family (Thienpont) who own two of the leading estates, Puygueraud and La Claverie. Also, in 1985 two St-Emilion families purchased the run-down Château de Francs.

Tourists to this area should try to stop in the village of Belvès-de-Castillon where a re-creation of the battle between the English and French takes place during the months of July and August. Also of interest are the villages of Castillon-la-Bataille (a festival takes place here usually during the second half of July), Champ de la Hire, Francs, Gardegan, Monbadon, Ste-Colombe and Tayac.
