100m/330ft separate the highest and lowest parts of this little town of Bonnieux on the north slope of the Lubéron. The upper church (12th and 15th centuries) is reached by a flight of steps from the Place de la Liberté; it is surrounded by mighty cedars (in the 1860s cedars from the Atlas Mountains were planted in the Lubéron). From here the
view extends across the Bassin d'Apt to Gordes and Roussillon and across the Plateau de Vaucluse to Mont Ventoux which dominates the landscape. The Musée du Tourisme (Rue de la République) houses the Musée de la Boulangerie. The lower church contains four panels by a 15th century German master (St Veronica; representations of the martyrdom of Jesus).
