The little town of Beaulieu (pop. 1,600) on the right bank of the Dordogne grew up round the magnificent 12th C. abbey of St-Pierre. The south doorway is one of the great masterpieces of Romanesque sculpture, with a representation of the Last Judgment in the tympanum. The church has a rich treasury.
