Parque Nacional Ubajara - Cave

The park has numerous streams, waterfalls and a small lake, but its greatest attraction is the Ubajara Cave (Gruta de Ubajara), which can be reached by funicular (daily 8.30 a.m. - 4 p.m.). The cave, situated at an altitude of 535m/1755ft half way between Ubajara and Araticum (a distance of 8km/5mi), is the largest in the region, with magnificent stalactites and a series of chambers named after their various rock formations - the Hall of the Rose, of the Horse, the Oratory, the Hall of the Curtain, of the Stream, of Wonders, etc., all with artificial light. At the entrance to the cave is the "Bell Stone", which gives out a bell-like sound when it is struck.
