The Fort McMurray Oil Sands Discovery Centre (Highway 63/Mackenzie Bvd.) is worth a visit. Models, drawings, films and experiments spread over more than 2300 sq. m (2750 sq. yd) provide information about the development of the extraction of crude oil from the sand, with the emphasis on the highly modern technology now used. Equally impressive are the huge machines used to extract the valuable raw material.
