Black Point Wildlife Drive is a seven-mile one-way driving loop which is a premier birding spot in Florida. There are numbered stops along the way which are described in a brochure available at the entrance. During the winter months, the northern shoveler, American wigeon, northern pintail, ring-necked and ruddy duck are common. Cruickshank Tower located at Stop 8 offers a view of the surrounding marshes from a 10 foot tower.
The Canaveral National Seashore is on a barrier island and offers a variety of plant and animal life as well as recreation activities. 150 archaeological sites have been uncovered, some of these sites date as far back as 3,000 years BC.

Wintering migratory waterfowls call Merritt Island Refuge home. Educational displays, wildlife exhibits and a video about the refuge are found at the visitor center. Visitors can take a walk over a pond, through an oak hammock to a freshwater marsh.
