Homestead is a small citrus growing town south of Miami that is a good jumping off point to the Everglades National Park, the Keys or the Biscayne National Park. Homestead was incorporated in 1913 and gets its name from a path that was known as the "Homesteaders' Trail".
Biscayne National Park covers a large part of southeast Florida. Most of the 180,000 acres is water, offering snorkeling, diving, boating, fishing, camping, picnicking and opportunities for wildlife watching. Over 10,000 years of human history has been discovered highlighting native peoples, shipwrecks, pirates, and pioneers.

Biscayne National UnderWater Park offersglass bottom boat tours, snorkeling and scuba diving excursions to the coral reefs. There are over 200 species of tropical fish to see.
Latvian immigrant Ed Leedskalnin worked alone for 28 years to build Coral Castle of huge coral blocks. It features a nine-ton gate and a unique sundial. Since its opening in 1923, Coral Castle has baffled scientists, engineers and scholars as to how he carved and moved over 1100 tons of rock without any human assistance.

Located close to the entrance of the Everglades National Park, Everglades Alligator Farm was one of the first commercial alligator farms in Southern Florida. The Farm began in 1982 as an airboat ride attraction and now more than 2000 alligators call the area home, some of which perform in hourly shows and demonstrations. There are also airboat rides and other snake and wildlife shows, which allow visitors to hold baby alligators or snakes.
The Fruit and Spice Park is a 38-acre botanical garden with over 500 varieties of tropical fruits from around the world. The facility also sponsors educational workshops and tours to other gardens in the region.
