Hattula Attractions

In 8km/5mi from Hämeenlinna the route to Tampere reaches Hattula, with a brick-built church (14th-15th century) which before the Reformation was a famous place of pilgrimage. It has many pieces of sculpture, including a figure of St Olav from Lübeck, and fine 15th century wall paintings. Some 2.5km/1.5mi farther on is Hattula's new church. The Parola Armour Museum in Hattula features exhibits highlighting the military history of Finland. There is equipment on display from the Red Army.

In another 10km/6mi a country road goes off to the industrial town of Valkeakoski (25km/16miles); then in another 4km/2.5mi a road on the right leads to Hauho (12km/7.5mi), the oldest parish in Häme province (church of ca. 1400; museum).
