Badia Fiesolana
To the northwest below San Domenico, at an elevation of 123m/404ft, lies Badia Fiesolana. Until 1026 this was the site of the cathedral church of Fiesole, now replaced by the present cathedral. After Camaldolese monks had rebuilt the church and monastery (badia = abbey), the buildings passed to the Benedictines. During the Renaissance the monastery and the church were again rebuilt; on the facade of the church can be seen Romanesque features, dating from the 12th century. The international college, the "Università Europea", has been here since 1976.
