Hill-Tribe Villages

Anyone wanting to undertake a trek in the mountains around Fang should take on a local guide and have a vehicle suitable for overland travel. The people of the Lisu, Haw, Meo, Akha and Yao hill tribes who live here still pursue their centuries old way of life and speak their own languages in what may appear to the visitor to be archaic conditions but are very much part of their culture. It is hoped, however, that modern farming methods will help eliminate the "slash-and-burn" agriculture that is the real obstacle to a more settled existence.
