Enna - Piazza Vittorio Emanuele
On the main square and focal point of Enna, the Piazza Vittorio San Francesco Emanuele, stands the Church of San Francesco with its 15th century bell-tower and inside, with a painted wooden cross from the same period. The paint- ing, depicting the worship of the kings, dates from the 16th century, the wall-paintings in the presbytery from the 17th century. To the north adjoins the Piazza F. Crispi with the belvedere, which offers a thrilling view of neighboring Calascibetta, the mountains of Madonie and Mount Etna. In the green areas of the square stands a fountain with a reproduction of Bernin's "Abduction of Proserpina" (the Latin name for Persephone), which, according to tradition, occurred in the nearby Lago di Pergusa.
