Bones and flint tools were discovered in the limestone caves above the village of Westbury-sub-Mendip. This is the earliest record of human habitation in the region, and dates back before the last Ice Age. The village is located on the southern slope of Mendip Hills and won Somerset Village of the Year in 2006.
