Tavistock Attractions

In former days Tavistock prospered through a combination of tin and wool; St Eustace's (14th/15th century) and the Guildhall (1848) were both built by subscription from local tin barons and clothmakers. On the Plymouth road, just southwest of the town, a statue (1883) by J. E. Boehm commemorates Sir Francis Drake, born at nearby Crowndale Farm in 1540.
Tavistock has a number of specialty shops including the 1000 year old Crebers Delicatessen, a farmers market held twice per month and a covered pannier market held five days a week, dating back to 1105. Throughout the year Tavistock also hosts a full calendar of events.
Morwellham Quay
Morwellham Quay is an award winning visitor center at a historic river port. History is brought to life at the quay where visitors can ride a train into old mine workings, take a horse drawn carriage ride and visit the cottages and workshops. Costumed staff will help guide and recreate history in this beautiful river valley.
