Newton Abbot (pop. 20,979) is located 15mi/24km south of Exeter. It is the site where William of Orange was proclaimed king in 1688.
The ancient tower of St Leonard is located at the centre of Newton Abbot. The tower is all that remains of the chapel that was started in 1220. There are a number of other notable historic buildings in New ton Abbot such as Forde House, built in 1610, and the Passmore Edwards Public Library, which opened in 1904.
The Church House in Newton Abbot sits adjacent to a Dartmoor National Park information point. It is currently leased to Widecombe in the Moor as a village hall.
