Newquay Tourist Attractions

Newquay (8mi/13km northeast of Perranporth; pop. 15,400) is one Cornwall's best loved resorts, its sandy beaches proving irresistible to large numbers of vacationers. Beautifully situated on the open Fistral Bay, Newquay has a great many Victorian buildings and offers a variety of interesting excursions in the surrounding area. These include visits to the remains of a ninth-11th century Celtic village at Mawgan Porth, the intriguing rock scenery of the coastal nature reserve at Bedruthan Steps, and Trerice Manor, an Elizabethan manor with a fine 16th century stucco ceiling.
Lappa Valley Steam Railway
The Lappa Valley Steam Railway provides a 2 mile return journey between Benny Halt and East Wheal Rose. At East Wheal Rose there are activities and attractions that will entertain the whole family ranging from crazy golf to slides and swings and a children's Woodland Railway. Enjoy your day, but don't miss the last return train!
Padstow - Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps
Carenwas and Bedruthan Steps is one of the most popular destinations on the Cornish coast. It offers spectacular clifftop views of massive rock stacks and Bedruthan Beach. The National Trust built a cliff staircase to the beach and there are excellent walking paths along the coast between Carnewas and Park Head.
Obby Oss Festival
The Obby Oss Festival is an annual May Day event and one of the oldest dance festivals in Europ. It can be traced as far back as pre-Christian times. The Oss is a black, canvas-skirted, six-foot wide monster wearing a witch-doctor's mask. The monster appears at 10:30am on May 1. After that, colorfully dressed followers parade around the Oss, singing and banging the drums. The festivities continue until 9:30pm when the Oss is supposed to die.
Saints Way Walking Trail
This 26mi/42km trail runs between Padstown and Fowey, from the Camel Estuary to the South Coast. The path follows a Bronze Age trading route, later used by Celtic saints to reach scattered farm and moor communities. Relics and historic monuments can be seen along the trail.
Trerice
Trerice is a National Trust property located in St Newlyn East. It is a beautiful Elizabethan manor house that was built between 1572 and 1573. Trerice is highly decorated and has notable plaster, glass and furniture.
