Lynton Tourist Attractions

|
From Exmoor the road passes Parracombe on its way to Lynton and Lynmouth (pop. 2,000), the latter lying on the coast, the former 400ft/122m above sea level, near the point where the East and West Lyn join before flowing into the sea. The old word "llyn" means "rushing torrent" and the River Lyn certainly lived up to the name in the great flood of 1952 which destroyed much of Lynmouth, so that the village had to be almost entirely rebuilt. Although the resort is a popular one, the bathing is not particularly good. The beauty of the surrounding countryside, however, more than makes up for this.Fishing is a popular activity as well as hiking along the South Coast Path.
