Ludlow (29mi/47km south of Shrewsbury, pop. 7,500) is visited often due to its beautiful position on the River Terne and its well-maintained half-timbered houses.
There are over 500 notable buildings and a ruined castle in Ludlow. The Ludlow Castle ruins feature examples of Norman, Medieval and Tudor architecture.
The school offers all levels of instruction as well as hacking and for novices. Different cross-country courses are available depending on ability. All tracks wind through the wooded countryside, with no roadwork. Hourly rides can be booked as well as week-long holidays. Unaccompanied children over the age of eight are welcome.

Wigmore Castle was abandoned and dismantled pre-seventeenth century and left to collapse naturally. Today, it has been buried up to first floor level by fallen upper floors, but its towers and curtain walls survive to their full height.
Tips: The Castle has steep steps to the summit, which are hazardous in icy conditions.
