Kendal Attractions

Kendal is situated on the east side of the Lake District and there are ruins of a 12th century castle.
Kendal is a popular tourist destination offering a number of places of interest such as the Kendal Museum of Natural History and Archaeology, Abbott Hall Art Gallery and the Brewery Arts Centre. Most of the local buildings were constructed of grey limestone including the Friends Meeting House, home of the Quaker Tapestry.

Abbot Hall designed by John Carr in 1759 in Georgian style has a remarkable collection of paintings including portraits by George Romney and Daniel Gardner.

Brewery Arts Centre
Art exhibitions, theatrical and musical events are held in the 200 year-old building.
The Brewery Arts Centre features a 260 seat theatre, rooms for hire for meetings, conferences, lectures, rehearsals and wedding receptions.

Drive from Hawes
From Hawes continue along the bank of the Ure to reach Kendal in Westmoreland, famous for its snuff. Catherine Parr, sixth and final wife of Henry VIII, was born in its now ruined castle.
Levens Hall
Levens Hall is located in Kendal. It was designed by James II's gardener, Guillaume Beaumont, in 1694. The garden is most famous for its yews and was the Garden of the Year Award Winner in 1994.

This family home has fine furniture, paintings, Spanish leather wall coverings, the earliest English patchwork, clocks and miniatures on display.
