Ivinghoe Attractions

Ivinghoe, the village which suggested to Scott the name of his novel "Ivanhoe", has an interesting church with fine woodcarving that was rebuilt in 1241. The Tudor architecture around the village green is notable as well as the Town Hall. In view from the top of Ivinghoe Beacon (904ft/276m) with its wide panorama of the Chilterns, are the historic old Ivinghoe windmill (1627; the oldest post mill in the country), and the white lion cut in the chalk which acts as a beacon for Whipsnade Zoo.
