Ramsgate, England
The seaside resort of Ramsgate (pop. 37,000) is linked to France (Dunkerque) by ferry. It has grown together with the neighboring town of Broadstairs into a municipality, and enjoys a very mild climate. The Ramsgate harbor, constructed in 1750, provides moorings for numerous yachts in summer. Ramsgate is a popular seaside resort, with good bathing and abundant entertainment facilities.
St Augustine's Church
The Roman Catholic St Augustine's Church on West Cliff is a masterpiece of neo-Gothic. Built between 1847 and 1851 by A. W. N. Pugin at his own expense, he is buried in the churchyard here. The Grange, the neighboring house completed in 1843 for the famous supporter of the English Gothic Revival, is adorned with a tower fortified with battlements.
Broadstairs Folk Week
This annual week-long festival takes place in mid-August. The aim of the festival is to promote English folk song, dance and music, and a number of events are held for this purpose. Exhibitions and displays also showcase local customs and folk traditions.
RAF Manston Hurricane and Spitfire Memorial Building
Many military aircraft can be found at this facility, with the permanent residents being a Hurricane IIC and a Spitfire.
