The Historic Dockyard area has been extensively restored, recreating the shipbuilding era where tourists can learn about the related trades and skills.
The Royal Engineers' Museum at Brompton, to the east of Chatham, documents the history of the royal pioneer troops from 1800 to 1845.
Displays at the Royal Engineer's Museum highlight the achievements of the first military divers, photographers, surveyors and aviators. In addition there is memorabilia of General Gordon and Field Marshal Lord Kitchener, both Royal Engineers.
