Ashby-de-la-Zouch Attractions
The small town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch (pop. 8,500) with pretty Tudor houses of the 15-16th centuries received its name from the Norman family La Zouch.
Ashby-de-la-Zouch has a golf course and holds an annual Arts Festival every August.

Ashby de la Zouch Museum
Small museum that featurs the history of Ashby including Ashby Castle under siege.
Calke Abbey
A number of treasures were uncovered by the National Trust after they acquired Calke Abbey, this casual Tudor house in 1985. A highlight is the state bed that was a wedding gift to Princess Anne and Sir Henry Harpur, fifth Baronet.
Other treasures include a beautiful harpsichord by Swiss master Burkat Shudi, a manuscript by Haydn and a collection of 17th century Chinese hangings in near perfect condition.
The Baroque mansion was built in 1701-03 in a fine landscaped setting.

Castle
Only the ruins remain of the former castle in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, constructed 1461-1483 by Lord Hastings, razed in 1648. It is featured in the novel "Ivanhoe" by Sir Walter Scott. St Helen's church in Late Perpendicular style contains ornate tombs of the Huntingdon family from the 16th century.

Staunton Harold Church
