Altinoluk
About 26km/16mi west of Edremit, near Altinoluk, are the sites of two more ancient settlements, Gargara (at the resort itself) and, 215m/700ft above it, the overgrown ruins of Antandros. It was here on Mt Alexandreia (Kaz Dagi/Mt Ida) that Paris, a shepherd on Mount Ida, son of Priam, King of Troy, was judge in the beauty contest between the goddesses Athene, Aphrodite and Hera. Although its origin remains uncertain, the town was probably founded by the Pelasgi. The necropolis, a fortress (Sahinkale) and a few other fragments survive.
