San Pedro de Riobamba, Ecuador

San Pedro de Riobamba is a small city located high in the Andes, south of Quito. The area was inhabited by the Incas and later ruled by the Spanish. Today the city's biggest attraction is the open air market which is a good place to find crafts and other goods.

Guayaquil, Ecuador

Guayaquil is Ecuador's largest city in terms of population. It is located along the Pacific Coast. Many people transit through Guayaquil on their way to the Galapagos Islands which offers many direct flights to the Galapagos.
However, Guayaquil does have a number of its own attractions, including an historic area, shopping, restaurants, and squares.

Salinas, Ecuador

Salinas is a coastal city, west of Guayaquil. The town has some beaches and is largely a resort town. The busy season here is from December through until May. However, Salinas sees lots of tourists year round. The temperatures are quite stable and consistently warm throughout the year.

Otavalo, Ecuador

Located in a valley with several surrounding mountains, the town of Otavalo has become increasingly popular with tourists. The town is well known for the market where people come to buy some of the locally made rugs, blankets, sweaters, bags, and other wool products. The Otavalo market is open each day but the largest number of vendors display their goods on Saturdays.

Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador

Bahía de Caráquez is located along the Pacific Coast on a Peninsula jutting out into the ocean. The city has seen it's share of problems over the years with earthquakes and mudslides but has rebounded. Today Bahia, as it is commonly called, attracts tourists and has numerous hotels.

Banos, Ecuador

Due to the city's lovely surroundings and hot springs, Banos is a popular tourist destination within Ecuador. The cty is quite small offering a small town atmosphere. In the surrounding area there are many recreational opportunities with hiking and mountain biking. Banos is also considered the gateway to the Amazon, attracting visitors who are transiting through.
