Ruhrort
The Schwanentorbrücke, a bascule bridge northwest of the Duisburg Town Hall, links the city center with the northern district of Ruhrort, which has grown in size and importance through ironworking and the shipment of Ruhr coal. Its extensive port installations (area 918.6 hectares/2,269 acres; 20 docks; freeport under construction), handle some 60 million tons annually.
