Dover - Woodman Institute Museum
The Woodman Institute in Dover was created in 1916 when Annie Woodman bequeathed $100,000 for the creation of a local educational institution focusing on science, history and the arts. The museum is a four building complex that includes: the last surviving 1675 fortified colonial Willliam Damm garrison house, completely furnished with period artifacts; the 1813 home of Senator John Parker Hale featuring local history, police/fire memorabilia, nautical, antique dolls/toys, pottery/china, early furniture and paintings; the 1818 Woodman House with minerals, birds, shells, mammals, Indian artifacts and Civil War items that include Lincoln's saddle; and the 1825 Keefe House with over 7,000 documents of local interest and revolving exhibits.
