Doorn - Huis Doorn

The ex-kaiser bought Huis Doorn in 1920 and lived there until his death in 1941. Originally a medieval castle, the house was rebuilt in classical style in the 18th century. The gatehouse was altered by the ex-kaiser in Dutch Renaissance style. The house is set in a large and beautiful park. The house is now open to the public as a museum. It preserves the original furniture and furnishings, with many of the ex-kaiser's personal possessions, including a collection of snuff-boxes belonging to Frederick the Great, military orders and uniforms, family photographs and pictures.
