Parades, dance and music are the focus of the Dominican Republic's assortment of festivals.
Dominican Republic - Carnival
Carnival is a pre-Lent celebration observed in February leading up to Fat Tuesday, with a colorful parade of costumed dancers and floats. Although celebrations can be found throughout the island, Santo Domingo is the place for Carnival in the Domincan Republic.
Dominican Republic Gastronomical Festival
Dominican Republic's Presidente Festival of Latin Music (Presidente Festival de Música Latina)
The three day Presidente Festival de Música Latina that attracts Latin music's top performers is held in Santo Domingo in June. The festival takes place every other year on odd number years.
Dominican Republic's Restoration Day Carnival
The Dominican Republic's second Carnival begins August 15, to coincide with Restoration Day (when the country declared war on Spain). More sedate than the March celebrations, costumed participants still abound.
Cabarete Alegría, is held in February and consists of weekend events such as bike races, kite-flying events and sand-castle building contests.
Cap Cana is a tourist resort area with luxury hotels and resorts, a huge stretch of beautiful beach, along with a marina and a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course. The site is located on the eastern side of the Dominican Republic.
Punta Espada Golf Course
Punta Espada Golf Course is a Jack Nicklaus designed course along the ocean front at Cap Cana. This is a par 72 course with outstanding views from most holes. Punta Espada hosted the 2008 PGA Champions Tour.
