Farmakonísi

Farmakonísi, an almost uninhabited islet of gentle, partly grass-covered hills, lies 12km/7.5mi southwest of Tekagaç Burun, a cape on the Turkish coast near Didyma. Here, in 77 B.C., Caesar was captured by pirates and released only on payment of a ransom of 50 talents. There are remains of a number of Roman villas and the ancient harbor, now partly under the sea.
