Dion - Excavations
|
|
Excavations by Greek archeologists in 1928-31, from 1962 and since 1973 have brought to light a considerable part of the ancient town of Dion. The remains now visible include sections of the town walls, the main street and several subsidiary streets (14 of which have been located), large public baths (4,000 sq.m/43,000 sq.ft) with mosaic pavements and good water supply and drainage systems, a small odeion, houses and shops, a Christian basilica and - outside the town walls - temples of Isis, Demeter and Asklepios, a Greek and a Roman theater and a Macedonian tomb.
