Haderslev Attractions
Jutland
Haderslev, an industrial and commercial town, lies in the south of Jutland on the narrow Haderslev Fjord which penetrates inland from the east and is fed by several small rivers.
History
Haderslev was founded, probably in the middle of the 12th C., at a fork in the road where there was also a ford and developed into an important town and ecclesiastical center. Because of its position the town was involved on several occasions in the wars for the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. Between 1864 and 1920 Haderslev belonged to the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein. When the Duchy of Schleswig was divided up in 1920 Haderslev became Danish.

Ceramics Collection
In Haderslev near the Cathedral can be found some old half-timbered houses; No. 20 houses a collection of beautiful pottery and ceramics.
Christiansfeld, Denmark
(Near Haderslev)
On the A10 north of Haderslev lies Christiansfeld, a town founded by the Moravian Brethren with the consent of King Christian VII in 1773. The town is impressive in its simplicity and has many mementos of the Brotherhood from Saxony - the Brodremenighedens Kirke (church) of 1776, plain and undecorated, the interior whitewashed; the cemetary subdivided into large plots and the Brotherhood Museum with ethnographical collections of their missionary work. In the cellar is housed the South Jutland Fire Brigade Museum.
Haderslev Cathedral
Its low houses make the town of Haderslev very attractive. The Cathedral (Church of Our Lady; Vor Frue Kirke/Domkirke), dating from the 13th-15th C. and built of brick, stands high on a hill. The interior is notable for its light choir, a bronze font (1485) by Peter Hansen, the altar with a Romanesque crucifix (ca. 1300), statues of Mary and John and alabaster figures of the Apostles.
