Jutland
Haderslev, an industrial and commercial town, lies in the south of Jutland on the narrow Haderslev Fjord which penetrates inland from the east and is fed by several small rivers.
History
Haderslev was founded, probably in the middle of the 12th C., at a fork in the road where there was also a ford and developed into an important town and ecclesiastical center. Because of its position the town was involved on several occasions in the wars for the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. Between 1864 and 1920 Haderslev belonged to the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein. When the Duchy of Schleswig was divided up in 1920 Haderslev became Danish.
