Dybbol Molle Attractions
On the mainland of Jutland southwest of Sønderborg lies the little township of Dybbøl, the name of which is closely associated with the events of the year 1864. On April 18 of that year, at the Dybbol Trenches (Dybbøl Banke), a natural hill near the windmill (Dybbøl Mølle), German forces overcame the numerically inferior Danes who had retreated from Danewerk, and so Denmark lost the whole of Schleswig to Prussia.
The windmill, reconstructed after a fire, and the cannon are now a monument. The mill contains a museum displaying arms, uniforms, etc.
