Anholt Attractions
The little island of Anholt lies in the Kattegat about half-way between northern Denmark and Sweden. The island can be reached by ferry from Grenå in about two-and-a-half hours.
Nature reserve
The island is mainly heathland and dunes, with just the occasional tree. The area of drifting sand, the Ørkenen (The Desert), produced by wind and waves, is unique in Denmark and can be observed from the chain of hills in the west, the Sønderbjerg. In the northwest of the island lies a lagoon with a bird sanctuary (Flakket). "Totten", the dune hill in the east of Anholt, is a seal reserve. The lighthouse is a protected building.
Tourism
There are moorings for boats along the coast of Anholt. Some 30 holiday homes, an inn and a camp site provide accommodation for tourists. Bicycles can be hired.
