Hollenburg
As the Danube flows through Tullner Feld, on the right a pilgrimage church looks down from the Wetterkreuzberg (368m/1,208ft), above the Hollenburg (205m/673ft). On the left the boat passes Altenwörth, where Charlemagne defeated the Avars in 791.
Tullner Feld
Beyond Krems, an important hub of communications and a good base from which to explore the Wachau, the Waldviertel and the Dunkelsteiner Wald on the opposite bank, the scenery is less attractive. The valley opens out, with the lowland area known as the Tullner Feld extending along the southern bank. A number of small islands appear in the Danube river.
